Struggling Family of 5 on one Teacher's Salary . . .

Help my family! started this conversation

We are a family of five - mom, dad, 13-year-old daughter, 7-year-old daughter, and 5-month-old daughter - struggling to make ends meet on my teacher's salary.  My husband has been unemployed for almost two years now.  I just came back from maternity leave, and because of how the pay schedule works (it's a long and complicated story) I'm now making over $600 less per month. We just don't make enough to pay our bills each month.  We are months behind on our car loan, and are days away from getting our electric and gas shut off.  My husband has looked for work, but has only been able to find jobs that would pay less than what we'd need to put the kids in daycare.  I've tried taking on an additional part-time job at a near-by church, but now I'll be away from my family for over 60 hours a week.  We just need something to get us caught up!  If we were at "0" then we could stay on top of things, but being behind is just killing us.

Dear family,
hello my name is laura and i live in minnesota. i am currently involved in FCCLA and i dont know if you know what that is or not but i am trying to raise awareness for how the economy is effecting familys across the u.s. if it would not be insulting to you i was wondering if you wanted to e-mail with some information on what you are going through. i know that i am not able to help you because i am only 16 but i will try and help to show other people what really happens behind closed doors in this economy. my family is currently on food stamps and we are struggling too i want you to know that i mean this as not an insult but my way of helping. if you can e-mail me at juniorlj2013@live.com. thank you for your time and if i don't hear back i do understand. thank you Laura.

I am nearly in the same situation.  Both my husband and myself work and it seems that no matter how much we do we still come up short.  This world sucks!

Maybe your hubby and/or you could start a home-based business?  You will get great tax advantages plus be able to make your own hours while helping others save on healthcare.  You can see if it's a good fit for you at http://www.iboplus.com/40466086.  Let me know if you have any questions! - Rosie
